How to Refresh a Tired Table.

Is your table as tired as my table? 

Bet not. 

Start with some light sanding, just enough to rough up the finish.
I start with a 60 grit to take the finish off, then use a 220 to smooth it out.

My table is old. 

I don't really know how old. I only know how long I've had my table.

Before living with us our table lived, neglected, in somebody's basement. We rescued this poor table from it's old home and brought it to our home. 
Back when I loved country. Shhh, don't tell that to anyone please and thank you.


My table has earned it's keep a 100 times over. 

It gets used day. in. and. day. out. Many times a day by ravenous teenagers who never seem to get full. 

It was time to breath a little refresh into this hard working table and make it beautiful again.

Spray paint is your friend. Here is Heirloom White.

After a couple of years of thinking on it, I took the plunge. 

Seriously it took about 6 hours total to refresh it and a little elbow grease. Why did I wait so long people?

Refresh and restyled!

Mixed an existing tinted glaze with a bronze metallic paint
Found on clearance for $3.26 at the hardware.
With an old rag, wiped the glaze onto the top of the table.

Birthing new chairs...well almost!

It's been awhile and I've been awol enjoying the end of the summer and the start of school which can only mean...F O O T B A L L! From August through November my life is football. And that means driving to all parts of the nearby country, working in the concession stand, freezing in the bleachers cheering for my kids. But alas, it also means that I am absent from the blog world for a season. However it doesn't mean that I have been absent from my projects, it just means that my projects are taking f o r eveh!

Well, I have finally...well almost finally....finished my kitchen chair project. We have been without chairs at our kitchen table for a couple of months now. Really hard to eat that way! You might be wondering why. It is not because I've been painting and repurposing chairs it's because I sold the chairs that went with the table. Something I've wanted to do for sometime. I finally got around to posting them on Craig's List to see what would happen. Yikes folks, they sold in less than 24 hours! Wasn't planning on that for sure. I didn't even know what I was going to do for new chairs!

So I started looking and the ones I LOVE are at Pier 1 for a price I have to refuse, cause I cannot pay that kind of money. But alas I found a great pair of old chairs off Craig's list for $10 for all 3 chairs. So minus the cost of about 5 cans of spray paint and a few yards of material and batting, the chairs cost about $45. to refinish and reupholster all three.


Isn't it funny how, just like birthing a baby, birthing repurposed furniture is soooo painful but as soon as you see the finished project you forget all the pain of the labor! This project sure had it's painful moments and anything that could go wrong did. From running out of paint, to having to strip down the old batting and bleaching the wood seat to get rid of a rather pungent (putrid!) smell that was permeating from these beauties! But, in the end, I am really happy with how they turned out. Hope you enjoy them too!
