BHG Crystal Tree Knock Off

Years ago, back in the day when I used to read magazines, (You remember those? Yeah, they had great pictures and articles, printed on glossy paper, with pages you could turn. Ahhh, those were the days!) I would use them as my inspiration file. The pre-cursor to Pinterest!

Used this old tube of wallpaper 'seam' adhesive to glue the
branches into the styrofoam. Yeah, I know...

Inserted the branches in a styrofoam ball that I had in the
basement from a project gone wrong.

Anyway, once I was done reading a magazine I would pull out articles or pictures of stuff that really inspired me. Even had them all filed neatly away in my filing cabinet. Only problem is that I forgot about them!

Added pendant crystals, hung by clear necklace 'wire'

In this past month, as we were moving things out of our bedroom to install hardwood, I cleaned out said file cabinets and guess what I found? A file full of eye candy! Yeah most of it was vintage but one article I ran into was timeless and pretty cool so I decided to replicate it. I call it my crystal tree.

Added dried moss to cover base.
I decided to create this with the 'use what I have approach' so I collected branches from my neighbor's yard, used an old urn in my dining room, styrofoam from an old box, wallpaper glue, dried moss I found in the basement. The only thing I had to buy were the pendant crystals and the wire. The crystals were 50% off at Hobby Lobby so I spent under $5.00 for the whole project!

Spring Has Sprung Another Mantel

Winter Mantel
Although the days are longer and the sun seems to be shining more, that is the only real sign of Spring in Michigan. But I refuse to let that stop me! I am forging ahead and burning up with Spring Fever!

Lightening and brightening!

Phase One is my Spring Mantel. Mantels are amazing because in a quick couple minutes you can totally change the atmosphere in a room!

Neutral colors help lighten the room.

Brighter and lighter colors are the object of this mantel update. Full room reveal coming soon.

The birds are returning!

White and green makes everything seem like Spring!

My Obsession

Oh yeah, you were probably expecting some kind post about St. Patty's Day, right? Yeah, not so much. I have to say that I am not much into all the holidays, strictly the 'big' holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Party pooper for sure.

Primitive country style

Country

Besides I had to confess something. I am obsessed. Obsessed with shelves. I've never met a shelf I didn't like and I have to really practice that whole self control thing or my house would be absolutely filled with shelves. Can you have too many shelves? I'm not talking the functional kind although functional, if it's decorative is great!

So I'm wondering what it is that I find so fascinating and I really don't know except that they look so cool and you can display really cool things on them. That's enough isn't it?

Eat

After it took me 8 years to cover up my hideous doorbell in the kitchen (click here to see that post), I had to find a way to blend that piece of art into the chalkboard frame that was already there. It just never ends I tell ya!

So I started keeping my open for some items to add that way make a cool wall arrangement. Items that didn't cost much money of course!

I ran into this word art at Hobby Lobby and loved the font and, of course, the word (Eat). I mean, who doesn't love to eat?

My Hobby Lobby find.
Wasn't into the red though. Now normally I love red but wasn't lovin' how it looked on the wall with the brown faux paint. So I quick took it to the basement, gave it a quick
sand, pulled out some leftover paint and gave it a couple coats and rouged up the edges a little. Still wasn't lovin' it though and so I looked at it for a few days. Then I had a quick idea, pulled out a stencil and some metallic white glaze and stenciled over the grey.

Loved the way it turned out and for free!

The whole arrangement
