Pin It I. am. in. love.  After a fair amount of time looking at wood plank walls on Pinterest, I finally ventured into this world and created my own version.  Evertrue pine planking from Lowe's as it looks when purchased. It was a bit time consuming but super easy. I started by purchasing the packs of Evertrue pine planking which are very reasonably priced. Yes what I really wanted was old barn wood but just couldn't find it. I purchased 7 packs so just around $75.00 for this wall and a bonus wall in my upstairs hallway...well almost! Most of the articles I read had people staining these boards but because it is winter and Michigan, I couldn't stain due to the odor and didn't want to wait for Spring to be able to work outdoors or open windows. So I decided to use paint. I had lots of leftover greys and browns and just started mixing them together to get different tones. I then added  water to dilute the paint and brushed it on the planks. Chalk it up to a new full time job and add the rest of the 'normal' stuff and my time is pretty well filled up. But I did want to take a quick look back at some of the projects I've completed for this year. Pin It Can you believe that Christmas is so close? Avon Christmas plates found at garage sale. Adding simple dollar store ornaments to existing pictures and mirrors adds a festive touch for a minimal price. Somehow I started by decorating a week before Thanksgiving, being ahead of the game with gifts and shopping, to being behind the 8 ball. Crazy how that happens! Dollar tree wreath hung on mirror. Ribbons and ornaments make the chandy festive. Ornaments are the cheapest and easiest way to add Christmas cheer! Our church is going through an Advent series and it has been great to learn more about the Advent season, what the candles stand for, and most of all, to learn to go through this season with Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Glass decanters, pine cones, ornaments, and pine branches make a festive centerpiece. Added some small, sparkly silver balls to glam up the pine cones. Pin It Can you believe there is only six weeks until Christmas? How did this happen, why we just got the leaves cleaned up in our yard and all the Fall yard work complete. But like it or not, Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks and Christmas just six weeks away.  Before picture of crate. This was a gift, filled with goodies, for my youngest son from his cousins I believe that you can enjoy a stress free holiday season and do more than just survive, you can thrive! How? Easy. Same crate, aged with leftover paint. Make a list and check it twice. Remember you don't have to do everything and be everything to everybody. Decide what are your priorities and list those first. This should be a gift list and a wish list of 'to do' items and activities. Pin It How do you start a project? Are you a planner and a researcher or do you just dive in and go with the flow? I am a brainstormer. I start compiling ideas in my head not because I am planning to redo a room or anything but because I am always doing that. But then, one day I will decide it's time. Time to repaint, time to repurpose, just time. This gorgeous rug I found on the Pier 1 website and it is on it's way to my house! So excited! This time it was my living room. I decided to neutralize it a bit and paint the walls grey and had a plan to sell and replace my burgundy leather furniture set for something neutral. But I did get all my fall decorating done before that happened including repainting my front room. (How does that always happen?) This shelf was made for me by my niece many years ago and has been housed in my sons room. He has recently repainted that room (I wonder where they get that gene from?) and did not want the shelf.
